Review of Candy (2006) by Susan B — 27 May 2009

Many compare this film to Requiem for a Dream, and in many respects the similarities are noticeable. It's a story about destruction and devastation in the wake of addiction: two heroin junkies can't release themselves from their downwards spiral towards hell.

But this film differs from 'Requiem' quite a bit as well, it's not quite as dark and it seems to hover above the utter despair that heroin addiction must certainly be. Although much of their addiction seems realistically messy, some parts seem a bit glamourized.

But Ledger and Cornish do well together, and Rush is a nice addition.
