Review of Camp X-Ray (2014) by Casey B — 19 Jan 2014
Color me completely surprised. No, Kristen Stewart's acting never elevates past solid but... Payman Maddi (of A Separation) is fabulous as a highly intelligent, possibly innocent man struggling to maintain his sanity inside Guantanamo Bay, and there is chemistry between the two leads.
More importantly, the actors have a quality script to work with. Camp X-Ray may have a lame title (and a touch of "pop" in its DNA), but it is an affecting and thoughtful exploration of both character and military ethics.
.. One that had parts of the audience in tears and nearly everyone standing in ovation at its end.
