Review of Camp X-Ray (2014) by Amilcar A — 22 Nov 2014
Sometimes a movie has the right idea and the right timing but everything seems to go sideways. Camp X-Ray is that movie. The concept is original and the concept is great but the film just falls flat.
Not only is it boring and repetitive but there's never really a point where you feel immersed or that you care about the characters.
Camp X-Ray tells the story of a new soldier who's job is to guard prisoners - or as they call them detainees - in Gitmo. She's a small town girl who joined the army only because she probably had no options. Now she finds herself babysitting people that have been imprisoned for years and are either insane or bored to tears.
Most of these men go nameless and with no real motive for incarceration so they're angry.
Kristen Stewart befriends one of them and realizes that regardless of their motivations and possible transgressions, these are just men with vulnerabilities, defects and virtues.
While the movie could have been great it's just boring and sappy.
Disappointing to say the least.
