Review of Cam Girlz (2015) by Hannah H — 24 Feb 2015
Sean Dunne is an effective documentary filmmaker who has a knack for beautifully portraying subculture in ways that can help even the most cisgendered, nuclear human understand. (Nothing wrong with being cisgendered or nuclear, mind you.).
Cam Girlz is about women in the porn industry who are their own bosses and work from a webcam in the comfort of their own homes.
I think this documentary portrays sex workers and sexuality in a way that is long overdue, and I hope because of this, more people will have a better understanding as to what these women do with their lives and their value as human beings.
I do, however, think the documentary was a bit too short, and didn't give the opportunity for critics to voice their concerns/opinions and then in turn give the women the opportunity for counterpoint. But overall it was definitely worth my time.
Dunne also directed American Juggalo and Oxyana. Two documentaries that you should also check out.
