Review of Cam (2018) by Jazzythechef — 18 Aug 2021
Sometimes it's good to get to the end of a mystery film without an obvious explaination, leaving you to ponder after the credits roll. Cam didn't do this for me, my final thought was "Ok, so what happened?" It just felt like I had somehow missed a critical scene or two to make the experience feel complete.
I read a review elsewhere after watching the film that included the thoughts of the writer, it would seem that the message he wanted to convey was the double life of the cam girl, the completed different personalities. I didn't feel like he really achieved this, and to be honest that seems like such an obvious and unremarkable aspect to the lifestyle it's something I kind of ignored as filler content. although the acting was good enough, I never felt compelled to care about the character, in either of her lives. It seems the writers intent was to serve up the mystery as a means to drive a story about identity. It was the mystery that allowed me to persevere with a story about a character with to unlikeable personalities, and ultimately left me feeling like I wasted my time with this film.
