Review of Calvary (2014) by Neil P — 11 Jul 2014
To be honest it's not really a dark comedy more a dark drama with some bizarre characters. Father James has a week to put his house in order after being told he'll be murdered. We quickly discover his parish are all deeply disturbed and that he and his family aren't much better.
The acting is great across the board and the screenplay ties in nicely to christian mythology. If there was one criticism it's that the characters are so interesting they could have easily made a mini-series or full-on TV show using the premise and cast.
I guess that's ultimately another plus for the writing and acting. A really strong film - just not a comedy.
