Review of Calvary (2014) by Jack M — 13 Jan 2015
Brendan Gleeson does a very touching performance as the knowingly flawed priest, struggling to tackle life's issues while acting as a guide for those in need. Helped by a great supporting cast, Gleeson charmingly strives and puts meaning into the smallest of lines.
An ongoing motif of faith and religion and how people interpret it allow themes of honoring life to flourish. "Calvary" is an interesting take on a man seeking for salvation and how his life of honesty and good-tidings eventually lead to despair, proving life is not fair nor forgiving.
