Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Gary P — 21 Dec 2017
I saw the movie, it was good, but basically it's about three closeted men, Elio, Oliver, and Elio's dad. and how Gay or Bisexual men bend to society, wrapped around a summer romance. What most would call a fling. it's tragic, well acted, and tamed to be acceptable enough for the masses. Is it the best Gay themed movie ever, No. I would say it's kind of like Moonlight. It certainly gives a different perspective on a lgbtq male coming of age like Get Real, edge of seventeen, L.I.E, beautiful thing, and many gay themed movies like it. It will certainly be a classic. It's no doubt the two heterosexual leads will win many awards and get a ton of Nominations for their performances, it's much deserved.
The cinematography and directing was done really well, and amazing cast. Even the extra made the film seem very realistic. And the timeframe of the 1980's, it really felt like the period in a small town.
This movie is a go see. But just keep in mind there are plenty of movies like it, if you know where to look.
To me the best performance here was by Elio's dad, at the end of the film, he spoke so much truth.
