Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Haze H — 25 Jan 2018
Timothee Chalamet is a revelation, and thoroughly engaging and sympathetic as the conflicted young lead. It is a quiet and complex movie, but never dull, with gorgeous settings to match the beauty of the performances.
If I had one criticism, it would be that Elio's family and their flawlessly boho-academic lifestyle seemed so rarified it was a bit distracting. To be so consistently and relentlessly articulate and right on (with apricot juice, no less!) seems a stretch that took me out of the moment from time to time, but not enough to detract from the overall impact of the film.
