I saw it five days ago, and I'm still wrecked from it! What surprised me is how many straight people are enjoying and being affected by this film! As I sat in the theatre watching it, it was if I was viewing several facets of my own life, pining after a guy, and always having him break up by phone--or having the other shoe drop as my worse fear is realized. At one point I stood in the street and watched him drive away like Elio stood at the platform and watched the train carry Oliver from his life.
Furthermore, I am surprised that the author is heterosexual, since straight folk often do not or cannot empathize with the Gay Experience.
