Review of Caligula (1979) by Justin O — 18 Oct 2008
Raunchy and perverse, but that's what the actual Caligula was. Yes, there is an unnecessary overabundance of nude figures. However, the dialogue was marvelously composed and we see a controversial figure in uncensored totality.
It may have been a miscalculation for the film's suggestion that all Romans were this debauched, for even they thought Caligula had taken one too many steps in his "little boots". Nonetheless, this is a curious piece of art.
