Oh Lord, what did I get myself into? Caligula isn't quite what you might expect considering the amazing assortment of talent lined up. The script is...well...silly to say the least, but the cast enjoys hamming it up for all it's worth. The movie is pretty much softcore (and some hardcore) pornography. I was shocked when I saw the kinds of things going on in front of my eyes. Caligula certainly earned it's XXX rating when it first premiered in the late 70's. Oddly enough, I'd be reluctant to call any of the graphic sex, nudity, or violence gratuitous considering Caligula might just be the most faithful and historically accurate portrayal of this time period.

All in all, Caligula is campy, hammy exploitation for those with strong stomachs and a high tolerance for the depraved.
