Some guy named Spielberg was developing this to be his first feature. he dropped it and it felt into Altman's lap. Gould, Segal and the underappreciated Gwen Welles (also in Nashvilled) are amazing. one of the great "buddy films" of the 1970s and one of a string of genius flix Altman reeled off in a row from '71 thru '76.
Thanx Stevie S. for dropping the ball. life's a gamble, as the late Bob altman knew. and this lucky 7 felt right into that dead man's hands...
