While Jennifer Aniston delivers a performance that breaks her from the rom-com roles she has been branded as, and does an amazing job doing so, the movie itself is nothing truly memorable. All in all we have the "Lifetime Movie of the Week" setup of a woman with deep rooted issues, finding relief through prescription drug use and alcohol.

The performance itself is layered with Aniston making you laugh at her snarky remarks one minute and feel her actual pain the next but in the end practically everything about the movie just meshes together into predictability.

People keep saying this is Aniston's chance to take a new path of movie-roles. However, how many forget that she played a dark and depressing role years ago in a much much better movie called THE GOOD GIRL? After that, she fell down the glitter path of easy money playing the same ditzy roles over and over.

Question is, here she has a great role with mediocre surrounding story... and she proved once again she can handle some actual drama... but how quick until this is just as forgotten as previous efforts? The film has its good moments.

.. but, it also has a lot of "haven't we seen this before?"... And, while Anna Kendrick's role serves a purpose, it really pulled me out of the story line every time she was on screen as it was just "huh?!".

CAKE is a movie that I enjoyed but was far from being able to brag about. I do have a feeling I will enjoy it more over time. But as for right now... it is what it is, nothing more, nothing less...
