Review of Cake (2014) by Steven B — 28 Jan 2015
There was a big line of Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone waiting to get into the theater. I thought most of them were probably going to Selma or something but about 15 went to this Jennifer Aniston flic.
The movie is, for the most part, an interplay between Aniston and the wonderful Mexican actor Adriana Barraza. Neither received an Oscar Nomination and both, in my opinion, deserved it. The movie is about Aniston's character, a badly injured, physically and emotionally, making a gradual recovery.
It has not big action or suspense scenes, unless you count getting a car stolen at the drive-in. Anna Kendrick are both great in supporting roles. This is not an especially easy movie but not, in the end, depressing either.
I recommend it unless you require car chase and space battles in your movies.
