Review of Cake (2014) by Alex L — 05 Mar 2015
Jennifer Aniston certainly proves she can act and act straight, but sadly the rest of the material in Cake - the film surrounding her excellent performance - does not come close to matching Aniston's show stopping role as chronic pain sufferer, pill popper and uberbitch Claire Bennett.
Competently directed by Daniel Barnz, the problems lie with Patrick Tobin's screenplay, which relies too much on TV melodrama cliches. However, Cake is well worth seeing for Aniston. ***.
