As one would expect Adriana Barraza is excellent. Jennifer Aniston is believable in her role as it is given to her. Despite Aniston's charisma, Daniel Barnz's film is just bland. Given the subject matter that the movie is trying to explore, the whole movie feels at odds with itself.
While the situations that come up or realistic, the characters translate into charictures due to an uneven attempt at dramedy. CAKE is nothing more than a benignly dull made for TV movie of the Lifetime cable channel variety.
