Review of Cake (2014) by William R — 01 Apr 2016
Stunning work by Aniston - perfectly toned performance with gallows humor fully intact.
For her sake, I wish the movie had done better at the box office. She did receive awards for her acting here - see Wikipedia like I did - but its another whole level when the public is part of the accolades, that's for sure.
I kept thinking about someone who deals with chronic pain and has children, so she's constantly trying to hide and mask her pain - it makes me appreciate Aniston that much more.
Plus she wears no make-up here - kudos for authenticity.
So rare.
Wow.
Its a quiet movie, no big shocks or surprises here, but it elevates the players work -all of them - which shines in all of their nuances.
I did want a bit more catharsis and explanation, hence some poor reviews, but I must give credit for what is here, and done very well.
Brilliant stuff.
4 out of 5.
