Review of Cairo Time (2009) by Jim M — 25 Jan 2010
Juliette (Patricia Clarkson, flat) arrives in Cairo hoping to meet her husband, a Canadian diplomat working with the UN in the Gaza Strip. When he is delayed she finds herself alone in Cairo with only her husbands friend Tariq (Alexander Siddig, also flat) to keep her company...and then they fall in love, give each other looks and thats it nothing else happens.
My God this was the best Canadian film at the Toronto Film Festival? Somethings gone horribly wrong, when this dull, flat, boring thing is are best film. Clarkson and Siddig have little to no chemestry. Look I can appreciate the restraint, subtelty, positive portaral of the region and hell Director Ruba Nadda shoot Cairo gorgeously (though one can see pretty much the same scenary in video's or photos from the Egyptian tourism agency), its great seeing Alexander Siddig having a career beyond Star Trek: DS9, but man o man does nothing interesting happen. A good happily married woman meets a good single man, they recognize mutal respect attraction and feeling for one another but don't allow it go anywhere. The characters are never in any danger emotional or physical. This is a boring story, fuck Juliette's friend Kathyrne (Elena Anaya smoken hot) was more interesting then our protagonist and centering a movie around her would have produced something alot more interesting. Can't really recommend this to anyone.
