Review of Cairo Time (2009) by Jeff S — 21 Feb 2011
A film with beautiful visuals that really capture the sense of being in Cairo, although it grabs a few stereotypes such as men aggressively harassing a woman on the street, which neither my Egyptian wife nor I have ever seen.
The plot is achingly slow, the story of a married woman who while anxiously waiting to meet her husband, is paradoxically drawn to the man whom her husband asked to meet her at the airport. The man, a stranger to the woman, is also drawn to her, but it is inexplicable why a woman so desperate to see her husband would consider a dalliance with someone she has known only a few days.
The direction and acting lack the chemistry and potency to make this relationship believable. Nothing really happens in the first 70 minutes of this 90-minute film. And the expected climax never really happens.
