Review of Cairo Station (1958) by Edgar C — 09 Jul 2011
Above all, Bab el Hadid is intelligent. The movie grabs Felliniesque characters (especially that sexy femme) and combines them in a joyous and iconic central location: the tran station of Cairo. But what seems to be a collective character study with intertwined layers of comedy and drama suddenly breaks all expectations (even those of the most experience movie-watchers) transforming the atmosphere into something entirely different, and in the end, the central idea and concepts remain the same! Talk about being genius and talented, Chahine!
99/100.
