Showing the effects of solitary confinement and how it can cause damage to the prisoner's psyche it sounded pretty good, but the approach is lousy, and it gets lost in a very unpleasant way.
The performances work within what they're provided, but in reality the story only exploits an astonishing and unfortunate conventionality.
