Review of Café Society (2016) by Dirigiblepulp — 31 Jan 2017
A nice nostalgia trip. Gorgeous golden cinematography and subtle performances. It's a surprisingly dark movie, unsurprisingly melancholic. It actually makes for an interesting pair with La La Land (which is what I did, inadvertently).
They share similar old-fashioned themes and a love for old Hollywood, with a similar resolve about the fate of living and loving. Though for me, LLL sticks the landing better.
