Review of Café Society (2016) by Steve W — 04 Aug 2016
Woody Allen's little unsubtle themes keep popping up in his films (the romanticisms of affairs, and a woman dating a much older man), but Cafe Society is a charming little drama comedy from the popular filmmaker.
The little nuances make the film solid, with Steve Carell and Jesse Eisenberg doing well. Even Kristen Stewart gets to break out a tiny bit, getting some sexuality even though her role is not glamourous.
The background characters of the Professor and the gangster help round things out, for a solid movie about classic Hollywood, important life decisions, and how sadistic life can really be.
