Review of Café Society (2016) by Lisa S — 12 Aug 2016
Amazingly sunny for a Woody Allen film. Other than that it is pretty much what you expect of a Woody Allen movie. Dark comedy, drama, misbegotten romance, etc. There is more of a sense of everything ending well despite a bittersweet end than is typical of Woody Allen, but overall somewhat dark in a comedic way.
Seemed that Jesse Eisenberg was channeling a young Woody Allen for his performance. For better or worse that is how he played it.
A generally good movie, but nothing very new or astounding.
