Review of Café Lumière (2004) by Alejandro H — 03 Oct 2007
Hou Hsiao-hsien is great at showing how the little things we do everyday accumulate into a life. A worthy modern tribute to Ozu's work, it updates the same sensibilities and concerns into a modern context that is meaningful and modest.
The performances by the leads are very natural and it's also great to be able to share space with them for two hours in some of the more interesting cafes and bookshops in Japan.
