Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by James H — 08 Mar 2009
This is worth seeing. The plot is thin, the story simplified beyond all reason although engaging in a childish way. The acting is very good (I didn't realize that Beyoncé _could_ act, but she's astonishing).
The music, even though everyone says "it isn't as good as the real thing", was excellent. The worst thing about this movie was the mumbling dialog - I thought I'd gone deaf (until the musical numbers where the lyrics are perfectly clear).
At one point about 5 minutes of mime with "Mumble.. mumble, muthafucka...mumble..." etc. is pretty stupid if you're trying to communicate something to an audience. Perhaps it was the cotton wool they stuffed inside Jeffrey Wright's cheeks to make him look like Muddy Waters.
