Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by Clarry M — 27 Feb 2009
Cadillac Records.
Totally under-promoted and under-rated biopic of Chess Records. Great entertainment and some excellent performances in the portrayals of Leonard Chess, Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Etta James. Plus some amusing and scary support in the portrayals of Little Richard and Howlin' Wolf. Yes, the purists may dislike it; Chess had a brother who co-owned the label, for example, but the movie world has this thing called "composite characters". The 10 second portrayal of the Rolling Stones was a little embarrassing. In a three horse-race of recent biopics, Cadillac Records would be hot on the rails with Ray, both gaining ground on Walk the Line. And what brilliant music.
