Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by Elizabeth R — 20 Mar 2009
This movie chronicles the rise and fall of Chess Records, which helped spotlight a number of R&B and Rock and Roll artists like Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, and Etta James. The musical performances were great, and they really helped the movie keep a sense of pace.
The acting was ok, but the script was mediocre. The storytelling by Willie Dixon, Cedric the Entertainer's character, was generally effective, but sometimes fourth-walled too much. It's a good movie for anyone who wants to know more about the history of Chicago music, and may help younger people discover great artists that they probably don't have on their iPods.
