Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by Hanna G — 23 Jun 2009
I thought it would be a typical musical with a typical (in this case) purpose: let's have Beyonce in the film to make her sing 'At last'. Since I like musicals, Etta James and Beyonce, I thought : why not?
I assumed it would be fairly entertaining film and I was positively surprised: it's not a musical but a story of beginnings of Cadillac Records, legendary record-company where stars like Muddy Waters or Chuck Berry made their first records.
Film is quite entertaining though slips over some important features of 1940s (racial issue is one episode only) but I guess it wasn't supposed to be deep.
On the other hand the cast is excellent. Apart from remarkably good Beyonce and Adrien Brody, my one and only Mod Def as Chuck Berry!
