Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by Katherine B — 31 Mar 2009
Entertaining film about the early careers of some of the most talented performers in the 50's and 60's. Interesting but not consistent look into their lives and I felt that if the film would have much better if it focused on one or two of the singer's lives, I would have felt less confused and fulfilled by the story.
Adrien Brody was underused as the proprietor of Chess Records but still gives a great performance. Beyonce was amazing as Etta James and was introduced far too late into the film. The other actors (Jeffrey Wright, Mos Def, Gabrielle Union) give engaging performances as well despite the muddled script they had to work with.
