Review of Cadillac Records (2008) by Ben C — 04 May 2009
Jeffrey Wright, who is usually a character actor, does an excellent job in his portrayal of Muddy Waters and adds some depth to an otherwise fast-forward run through of the history of Chess Records. The movie deserves credit for telling an important story in music history and it's ambition in going from start to end.
This also hinders the movie as it quickly skips around through time and from musician to musician. Wright's performance is what anchors the movie as he is present from start to finish. Overall this is a good movie which might have been excellent with better pacing and coherence.
