Review of Caddyshack (1980) by Sean S — 09 Nov 2012
It may be considered a "sports" comedy classic and have developed a cult following, but Caddyshack is quite the average film. There are a few laughs, but Bill Murray's crazed "assistant greenskeeper" act trailing an achingly fake gopher feels tacked on (it WAS, but they could at least have made it feel more integrated) and is really not so funny at all.
There are off-putting jibes made by most actors (even by the usually humourous Chevy Chase), and there is a strange element of sex involved which has no bearing on the "plot" whatsoever. It's out of my usual, self-identified element, but Caddyshack is a half-hearted effort in comedy, or whatever else it attempted to be.
