Review of Caddyshack (1980) by Jon C — 20 Apr 2013
Simply put, Caddyshack is a hilarious film. Full of non-stop laughs, this is an American classic and one of the greatest comedies ever made.
Young caddy Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) spends the summer working at an upscale country club. He is trying to win a caddy scholarship in hopes of attending college. To do so, he has to impress Judge Smalls (Ted Knight) and win the caddy golf tournament that he sponsors. This films strings together a bunch of slapstick scenarios involving different people at the country club. There's an obnoxious land developer (Rodney Dangerfield), millionaire slacker (Chevy Chase) and a crazy groundskeeper (Bill Murray) trying to hunt a gopher that is ruining the course.
What can you really say about Caddyshack? I'm not sure I've ever seen a movie that has made me laugh as much as this one. There are several comedic geniuses all working together here. Rodney Dangerfield as the over-the-top Al Czervik is one of the funniest characters to ever appear in any film. Combine that with brilliant efforts by Ted Knight, Chevy Chase, and Billy Murray, and you have one of the most hilarious films ever made. 5 stars.
