Review of Caddyshack (1980) by Tony M — 17 Jul 2014
Admittedly immature, silly and at moments obnoxious. But it has the best gags and movie lines from a comedy of that generation-many of which are still on my lips 'til this day. Post SNL Chevy Chase and especially Bill Murray's ad libs are unforgettable.
Maybe more than any film it propelled Murray and Chase into the top draw of popular comedy films. I would have once put this very much higher on my favorites list, but now as a parent of teens I no longer find some of the childish and stupid hijinks quite as funny anymore--at least I wouldn't want any of these characters to influence my kids (or anyone else's)! But still a vital part of my own coming of age.
Also notable are the immortal and equally obnoxious roles of Ted Knight and Rodney Dangerfield. So it's got that going for it, which is nice. It's in the hole!
