Review of Caddyshack (1980) by Adam S — 10 May 2012
Chevy Chase gets to work with some of his best material. Rodney Dangerfield has a career-defining outing. Bill Murray is amazingly psychotic, in one of his best acting performances in comedy. And the show is still stolen by an amazingly iconic gopher.
That's Caddyshack in a nutshell, easily the best golf comedy ever made (Happy Gilmore? Not a chance).
Yes, some of the humour is juvenile. But, unlike some recent juvenile movies ("American Pie", "The Dukes of Hazzard", any of those horrible spoof movies), Caddyshack does it with a measure of charm that fits more with the Pythons and "Flying High" in that regard.
A brilliant first outing for Harold Ramis.
