Review of Cactus Flower (1969) by Annelies S — 03 Oct 2009
Cactus Flower is a 1969 comedic film directed by Gene Saks and starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn. The film is adapted from an earlier Broadway stage play, written by Abe Burrows, which in turn was based upon the French play Fleur de cactus.
A middle-aged dentist finds himself wild about a kooky young girl, while his nurse/assistant finds herself falling in love with him. Goldie Hawn won an Oscar for her performance as a Greenwich Village free spirit in this movie and is a treat to watch.
Never heard about the film before but I was pleasantly surprised by the entire package. Cactus Flower is a beautifully crafted and executed comedy perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
