Review of Caché (2005) by Timothy C — 30 Mar 2008
A puzzle of a film - and one that gives no obvious answers. In spite of its slow pace and seeming elusiveness, Haneke manages to maintain our interest throughout. It's an intelligent and rewarding film (and one that merits repeat viewings) - and it is also one that is bound to frustrate and bore a majority of viewers. Still, it's as good a launching point to Haneke's brilliant (but difficult) oeuvre as any, and one I'd recommend to any adventurous viewers.
Note: Watch carefully in the last shot of the film and you'll see... Something of significance - something I missed during my first viewing of the film. Whether it is an answer or simply a continuation of the mystery is up to you to decide.
