Review of Caché (2005) by Ali B — 21 Apr 2008
Simply put, this is an art film masquerading as a Hitchcockian thriller. Michael Haneke (who most recently helmed the unfairly maligned Funny Games), has made a complex film about race, secrets, and conscience (both personal and national).
The pace is glacial, but the narrative builds surprising power, culminating in a willfully ambiguous ending. Haneke's use of long shots is superlative, often challenging the viewer to look more closely at the events unfolding on screen.
Overall, a terrific, unforgettable picture.
