Review of Caché (2005) by Deepannita G — 05 Jan 2010
I was at school when Parisian police murdered 200 demonstrators by drowning them in the Seine. For me, it is a vague memory from those troubled days of the Algerian problem; just one of the multiple threads that formed my political beliefs.
In France it remains a difficult issue. It was in fact Haneke's inspiration for making this allegorical, ambiguous and ambitious movie. It is not an easy film - who did make the video tapes which are the catalyst for what follows? How accurate is George's memory of what he did to ruin Majid's life? Why are Pierrot (George and Anne' son) and Majid's son meeting in the last scene (and did you notice them)? This is not Hollywood and there are no answers here, but I hope that this makes you just a bit thoughtful.
Brilliant film-making.
