Review of Caché (2005) by John W — 21 Mar 2011
Like 'Funny Games' this is another challenging film from Haneke asking a lot from his audience and not prepared to give them all of the answers. In some ways this makes the film very frustrating, in others it becomes more and more fascintaing and the viewer is left to come up with their own solutions even if these were not the ones intended by the director.
The whole idea of perception and 'truth' is the main theme here and once again Haneke finds a way of bringing out great performances from his actors, most noticably Auteuil in quite an unsympathetic role.
The final shot will have you scratching your head and looking for resolutions you won't find and if you're looking for a 'Hollywood' style ending you won't get it but I found the whole thing very tense and fascinating.
