Review of Caché (2005) by Andrew B — 24 Apr 2011
Put this in your Netflix queue and move it to the top of the queue right away. Reasons why you should do this:
1) This film is a thinking-person's psychological thriller, the antidote to mainstream offerings like The DaVinci Code (which I haven't seen, but can guess how it goes). How many films have you come across that fit this description?
2) There are many dramatic themes, brilliantly interwoven, that this film also fits the drama genre. Socio-political, interpersonal, personal, and psychological forces are all at work. The upshot is that between the suspense and drama, there is something for everyone.
3) Amazing acting by every single person in the film, even the minor characters.
4) You'll have questions at the end, leading to a great conversation and/or good time for reflection afterwards. Watch the director's interview, and also pay close attention to the lower left hand corner of the final scene.
5) You'll be reminded of your high school French!
