Review of Cabin Fever (2003) by Allan C — 01 Jul 2012
Eli Roth turned the teenagers-in-the-woods horror film on it's head by making his version without a killer and by having a killer virus instead. Although he turns the many horror conventions on their head, Roth also pays homage to many of his horror forbearers; everything from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to "Evil Dead".
Besides the clever premiss of the film, the special effects are well done and quite effective, there is a good amount of suspense and I really did not know how the film was going to end. The weaknesses of the film are that the characters are all pretty standard horror stereotypes (the good girl, the nice guy, the jock, the frat boy, etcâ¦) although it could be argued that this was a convention the film stuck with to subvert the other horror elements in the film.
Overall, it's an effective, very gory, piece of horror, that will please most horror fans.
