Never before have we seen a musical (or indeed, a cabaret) where the songs act not only as a commentary to the events of the movie, but as a stark social commentary regarding life in pre-war Germany. Welcome to the colourful, decadent world of Cabaret, the multiple Oscar-winning musical that saw Liza Minnelli and Michael York achieve stardom and international recognition.

The songs are catchy and the performances are superb, with Minnelli and Joey Grey as the Master of Ceremonies the standouts. What is most chilling about Cabaret is its constant tracking of the Nazi movement, from the 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me' number to the film's frightening final frame.

A thought-provoking, thoroughly enjoyable film.
