Review of Cabaret (1981) by Jt A — 06 Mar 2011
This movie has the honor of winning the most Oscars (8) without winning Best Picture. After watching it, you can see why it won all those awards. Minnelli is a showstopper and Joel Grey should MC every show. The movie does feel like a "70's Musical" right down to the editing and camera shots. The music is memorable and Bob Fosse's direction and choreography is worth the Oscar. But at the end of the day, it makes sense why it lost Best Picture to The Godfather.
Grade: A-.
