Review of Byzantium (2013) by David S — 11 Sep 2013
Neil Jordan takes on vampires again, but don't expect another "Interview with the Vampire." On its own this movie has interesting, if not overly compelling, characters who ponder eternal life and relationships.
Featuring some terrific visual images, including a waterfall of gushing red blood, there are striking moments. Yet it feels like a bit of a cheat, as it plays with the conventions of vampire mythology by allowing its characters to walk about in daylight, which conjures up negative feelings toward such recent hits as the "Twilight" series.
Such plot points serve to undermine a reasonably well-done film.
