Review of Byzantium (2013) by Paul P — 17 Nov 2013
Vampires and the seaside, what's not to like...
Neil Jordan revisits the vampire genre and adds some much needed life into it. The way that the story skips back and forward to different times allows the scale of the story to become clear and come the end, it's quite a sad one that stayed with me. Arterton is terrific as Clara, her work here is really nuanced and I was genuinely impressed with her work. The other standout for me was Jonny Lee Miller, his character and his actions throughout are pretty grim and he does a great job in bringing this guy to the screen.
Visually, this film is pretty striking and overall, it is a great alternative to the morose Twilight teenagers we have been forced to endure over the past five years...
