Review of Byzantium (2013) by Grant S — 02 Sep 2014
Interesting, but not overly original. Adds very little to the vampire lexicon. Movie feels like a retread of so many other vampire movies. Interview with the Vampire, another Neil Jordan film, sprang most immediately to mind.
Plot isn't bad but does seem to lack momentum at times. The jump-cuts are as much a hindrance as a help, sometimes making things confusing.
On the plus side, it was a novel idea for the central characters to be FEMALE vampires. That did bring in some originality. Plus, director Neil Jordan does a decent job of injecting some tension and suspense into the movie.
The biggest plus is, of course, Gemma Arterton...
