Review of Byzantium (2013) by Kristi M — 05 Sep 2015
Byzantium is a middle of the road movie for me, not as good as it could be but not a bad movie either. All of the familiar elements are there including the contrast of extremes between two characters and the angst of fighting one's perception of morality.
Basically if compared to Interview with the Vampire Clara is Lestat and Eleanor is Louis with the pace of the movie about the same. Where this one lacks in comparison is that I could feel how slow the pace was whereas IWTV is compelling to watch all the way through.
There were elements they tried to throw in to make it different by having a lack of fangs and some sort of bizarre fountain of youth that spews Kool-Aid but it doesn't make a difference overall. Still a decent character study and I doubt anyone will regret watching it.
