Review of By the People: The Election of Barack Obama (2009) by Brian R — 06 Nov 2009
I did manage to learn a few things about Barack Obama from viewing this documentary:
- His "mom jeans" faux pas at the 2009 All-Star Game doesn't seem to be a isolated incident when not in a shirt and tie.
- Obama seems to have a pretty decent jump shot.
Beyond that, I can't think of much that I saw in these 2 hours that wasn't already covered during the campaign. While it can be said that this was an inside look into a historic campaign, this movie has only limited appeal. Any person that already dislikes President Obama is not going to find his personable appeal refreshing. Meanwhile, Obama's supporters aren't going to learn anything that they probably cannot already recite verbatim. At that point, this documentary seems to be more on par with each season's World Series DVD: great collector's item for fans of baseball or the championship team, but not much else.
